Song Kang is opening up about how he became friends with BTS’ V during their military service.

The actor appeared in a new episode of the YouTube show Salon Drip, released August 25th on the TEO channel, where host Jang Do Yeon brought up an instant photo Song Kang and V had taken together and asked how the two became close.

“We became friends in the military,” Song Kang said. “We were in the same corps, but we had different roles.”

He explained that V served with the SDT, or Special Duty Team, while he was a regular soldier. The two eventually connected through a mutual acquaintance and coordinated their weekday leave so they could meet up.

Their friendship apparently included plenty of gaming.

“I went to PC bangs with V a lot too,” Song Kang said. “Five people from his team and five people from my unit would get together and play five-on-five games.”

When Jang asked whether military hierarchy meant Song Kang had to speak formally to V, he explained that things worked differently because they belonged to separate units.

“If you’re from different units, it’s different,” he said. “There’s pride between units, so we’d call each other ‘Mr. So-and-so.'”

Jang then asked who usually picked up the check when the two went out to eat.

“He usually did,” Song Kang said of V. “I paid a few times too. When I lost at games or bowling, I picked the tab.”

The two stars both completed their mandatory military service after serving in different roles, with their friendship becoming public through photos and occasional mentions after their discharge.
