Yoo Hae Jin shared a behind-the-scenes story about Park Ji Hoon’s dramatic transformation for their new film.
On Tuesday, Yoo Hae Jin and Park Ji Hoon appeared on the YouTube talk show “Salon Drip,” hosted by Jang Do Yeon, to promote their film The King’s Warden.
Park Ji Hoon, who plays King Danjong, revealed that he lost 15 kilograms over roughly two and a half months to prepare for the role. He explained that he had gained weight during a break after filming Weak Hero Class 2, which raised concerns early on.
“Danjong is supposed to look worn down after being sent into exile, but he had gained quite a lot of weight at the time,” Yoo Hae Jin recalled. “It was right after he’d finished a project and was resting. Honestly, I was pretty worried. But when the filming started, he had lost so much weight it almost felt bad to look at.”
Park confirmed the transformation, saying, “I lost about 15 kilograms in two and a half months,” drawing impressed reactions.
Yoo Hae Jin went on to praise Park’s work ethic. “From that day on, my trust in him became part of his overall image. I thought, ‘This is a really solid guy.’ I only knew him from his Wanna One days, and I didn’t realize he had been acting since he was young. He’s built his career steadily.”
During the conversation, Park also reflected on his school years. “I didn’t have many friends. I’m from Masan, so my dialect was strong, and I was overweight. People would say things like, ‘He’s that fat and he’s on TV?’ I started to think people didn’t want to be friends with me because of the way I spoke.”
Park also laughed about an old dance battle video filmed during his time at an arts high school. “I was a trainee and wanted cafeteria vouchers so badly, but of course I didn’t win,” he said. “Please delete it.”
