Busan’s glamour was in full swing on September 18th as the 34th Buil Film Awards lit up the Signiel Busan Grand Ballroom in Haeundae. The night’s biggest prize, Best Picture, went to House of the Seasons, while Best Actor and Best Actress were awarded to Lee Byung Hun (The Match) and Kim Go Eun (Love in the Big City).
Lee Byung Hun, who shared his win with director Kim Hyung Joo, his crew, and co-stars, reflected on the challenge of The Match. “When I first heard the film was about Go, I thought it might be too quiet or even boring. But once you step inside, it’s more brutal and desperate than any war. That’s why so many people compare Go to life itself,” he said. With a smile, Lee added, “They give you gold after you get your third Best Actor. I was thrilled after getting one. This is my fourth win, but this is good enough.”
Kim Go Eun, accepting her Best Actress honor via video message, expressed gratitude and nostalgia. “I’m truly happy and honored. It’s been such a long time since Eungyo that I’ve received an award like this,” she shared, adding, “All the staff, actors, and the director worked hard on this, and it left me with wonderful memories, which makes this even more meaningful.”
Supporting Actor awards went to Park Jung Min (Uprising) and Yang Hee Kyung (The Land of Morning Calm). Rising stars were also recognized, with Hyeri (Victory) and Choi Hyun Jin (When This Summer is Over) named Best New Actress and Best New Actor, respectively. Hyeri also walked away with the Star of the Year trophy, making her the night’s only double winner. Meanwhile, Lee Jun Hyuk (The Firefighters) repeated as Star of the Year for the second consecutive year.
The Yu Hyun Mok Film Arts Award went to Jang Dong Gun, honoring his lasting contributions to Korean cinema.
