Following Koyote member Shinji’s surprise marriage announcement with singer MoonOne, the couple is now facing unexpected backlash, thanks to one comment MoonOne made in front of her longtime bandmates.
On July 2, a video was posted to Shinji’s YouTube channel, showing her introducing MoonOne to fellow Koyote members Kim Jong Min and Bbaekga.
Shinji began by telling them, “There’s something important you both need to know.” MoonOne then added, “Actually, I think I should be the one to say it. It might come as a surprise.” Kim Jong Min jokingly responded, “Can I just not hear it?” while Bbaekga added, “I don’t like surprises,” keeping things light—but things took a turn.
MoonOne said, “People now know me as Shinji’s boyfriend and fiancé. But honestly, I didn’t know Shinji was such a famous person.” A stunned Kim Jong Min laughed and replied, “So you just saw her as a woman,” to which Moon nodded, “Exactly. (After learning she was famous) I thought I should treat her even better.”
He then went on to reveal that he had been married before and has a daughter—news that visibly caught Bbaekga off guard, excusing himself to the bathroom. MoonOne continued, “At first, I didn’t tell Shinji. But as things got more serious, I thought I had to be honest. She took time to think about it and eventually said she could accept it.”
What’s stirring controversy now is MoonOne’s claim that he didn’t know Shinji was famous. Many viewers are calling it hard to believe, with one user pointing out, “He was born in 1988—there’s no way he didn’t know who Koyote was,” and “Was he living under a rock or something?” Another speculated, “Was he just trying to make it seem like he didn’t go after her for being a celebrity?”
Negative reactions poured in across social media and comment sections since the video was released: “Why go out of your way to say you didn’t know a nationally famous singer?” “Something about this whole thing feels off,” “It’s creepy that he didn’t tell her about his kid at first,” “Sis, run while you can,” and “The whole country is telling you not to marry this man.”
One comment summed up the general mood: “Thirteen minutes of him on screen and I already don’t like him—can you imagine a lifetime?”
