Former CNBLUE member Lee Jong Hyun has opened up about his life since leaving the group, revealing that he married and started a family but is now going through a separation.

On August 11th Lee shared a lengthy post on Instagram, saying he wanted to speak about things he had kept to himself for years.

“I was once a member of CNBLUE, but due to my inappropriate words and actions and my own immaturity, it has been eight years since I left the group and stepped away from the public eye,” he wrote.

Lee said he has continued to carry the burden of his past actions and the criticism they brought to CNBLUE and its members.

“Some fans who supported me at the time may have thought the members had turned their backs on me, but that was never true,” he said. “It always hurt me that the members were caught up in the fallout.”

He explained that he decided to leave the group because of personal circumstances and mistakes he was unable to fully explain at the time.

“I was afraid that staying with the group would cause more harm and damage its reputation,” he wrote. “Leaving CNBLUE was entirely my decision and my responsibility.”

Lee also revealed that he eventually left the entertainment industry altogether because he was ashamed of his past actions.

During those eight years away from the spotlight, he said, he faced various challenges in his personal life. He revealed that he married and started a family, but that his marriage is now ending.

“I did start a family, but we are currently going our separate ways,” Lee said.

He added that he now wants to face his past mistakes instead of avoiding them and live openly as an ordinary person.

Lee stressed that his post was not an attempt to return to the entertainment industry. Instead, he said he wanted to clarify his current work and prevent unverified rumors or misunderstandings, particularly involving certain brands and business activities.

He also apologized to and thanked the CNBLUE members for having to deal with misunderstandings surrounding his departure for so many years.

Lee Jong Hyun left CNBLUE and the entertainment industry in 2019 following his involvement in the so-called “Jung Joon Young chatroom” scandal, in which sexually explicit videos were shared through mobile messaging.
