Evidence submitted by Hwang Jung Min in his stalking case against a female fan has been revealed.

The controversy began on July 29th after the fan posted claims online alleging a close personal relationship with the actor. Hwang’s agency, Sem Company, denied the allegations and stated that the fan was a stalking suspect who had repeatedly harassed the actor.

Dispatch reported on July 30th that Hwang and the fan first met through a fan-and-celebrity relationship. The two reportedly met three times in total, with no physical contact between them.

Their first meeting took place on August 16th, 2023, at a private location in Seoul. They met again about a month later at Incheon International Airport, where Hwang was accompanied by his manager.

During their interactions, Hwang reportedly mentioned plans to launch a soju brand and suggested that the fan work on the label design. The fan claimed she continued preparing for the project, including conducting market research, developing concepts and researching trademarks.

“Hwang Jung Min proposed a soju brand business using his name and representative works, and I carried out market research, concept planning and trademark research as a design professional,” she stated. However, she claimed that Hwang later stopped providing feedback and eventually decided not to proceed with the project.

The fan also claimed that Hwang encouraged her to write, leading her to create around 30 pieces, including novels and essays. She alleged that some of the writings contained sexual content requested by Hwang.

“This incident was emotional and sexual exploitation that occurred under a significant power imbalance, and I believe it was also labor exploitation,” she said. “Regardless of Hwang Jung Min’s intentions, I had to endure emotional deprivation, sexual shame, and exhaustion caused by unpaid work.”

Hwang reportedly began distancing himself from the fan afterward. The fan allegedly contacted his son after communication between them stopped. Hwang later responded after his son received the message, and the two reportedly continued occasional communication.

Hwang explained that he met with the fan and apologized in an effort to prevent further escalation.

The situation reportedly escalated again last year when Hwang attempted to end contact. The fan allegedly sent him messages, photos of a deceased cat, images of blood-stained tissues, letters and what were described as farewell notes.

Dispatch reported that Hwang submitted a 11,021-character KakaoTalk message exchange, photos of a deceased cat, tissues stained with the cat’s blood, eight letters, and two farewell notes as evidence in his stalking complaint against the fan. The court later determined that the case constituted a stalking crime, according to reports.

The fan was also accused of involving Hwang’s family. She allegedly contacted his son after a photo of Hwang with his wife was released and later attended his son’s school performance without his knowledge. She reportedly sent Hwang a message afterward saying, “This is the ticket from when I went to your son’s All Shook Up performance.”

The fan has continued to describe the situation as “sexual exploitation,” despite there being no reported sexual relationship, physical contact between them. While she claims the sexually explicit writings she created were evidence of exploitation, Hwang’s side argues that they demonstrate a pattern of stalking behavior.

Public reactions have been mixed. Some have expressed sympathy for Hwang, saying he was placed in a difficult situation, while others have criticized his decision to maintain private contact with a female fan despite being married. However, many agree that the fan’s alleged actions crossed the line into stalking.

Hwang continued his scheduled stage greetings for his film Hope on July 29th, the day the controversy emerged. His agency stated that it would not respond further to the fan’s changing claims and would allow the legal process to determine the outcome.
