Lee Jun Young is giving viewers a chilling look at Choi Jeong Yo’s double life in Four Hands, Two Sonatas, balancing the character’s warm support for Kang Pio with a cold desire for revenge.
In the tvN weekend drama Four Hands, Two Sonatas, which aired on September 19th and 20th, Choi Jeong Yo (Lee Jun Young), a former piano prodigy who has become a conductor, helped Kang Pio (Song Kang) overcome his slump while revealing that his supposed amnesia may be part of a larger plan for revenge.
Choi Jeong Yo disappeared nine years ago before returning as the winner of an international conducting competition. He then prepared for his Korean debut as a guest conductor for the Korea Symphony and chose Kang Pio as his piano partner.
Kang Pio had developed a fear of the piano after making a mistake during a recital and initially turned down the offer. However, Choi Jeong Yo met with his mother and persuaded her to let him take part, eventually bringing the two musicians together.
Choi Jeong Yo then opened up about his own struggles to help Kang Pio return to the piano. He revealed that an accident left him unable to play as he once did and spoke about the difficulty of playing with his left hand.
He encouraged Kang Pio to play for himself rather than worry about how others viewed him. His words eventually gave Kang Pio the confidence to sit down at the piano again. Lee Jun Young conveyed the character’s sincerity through his quiet voice and emotional gaze as he opened up about his own pain.
Choi Jeong Yo was equally confident as a conductor. He quickly showed his skills by catching even the smallest mistakes even though some orchestra members doubted him. During their first rehearsal, he reassured the nervous Kang Pio, telling him, “This time, trust me completely. I’ll take care of the orchestra.”
But Choi Jeong Hyo was secretly planning revenge behind his kind and supportive image.
He claimed that he had lost his memory in the accident nine years ag but actually remembered Kang Pio and everyone else involved. He pretended to be confused and emotional around those who were wary of him, only to reveal a completely different side when he was alone.
His chilling question, “When should I bring them down so they suffer the most?” hinted at the revenge he has been planning.
Lee Jun Young has brought Choi Jeong Yo’s conflicting sides to life, shifting effortlessly between moments of warmth and his character’s darker intentions. His desire to help Kang Pio while secretly plotting revenge has added another layer of tension to the drama and left viewers wondering what he will do next.
The buzz surrounding Four Hands, Two Sonatas and its cast has also been reflected in its popularity rankings. According to Good Data Corporation’s FunDex chart for the second week of September, released on September 15th, Lee Jun Young ranked No. 1 among TV-OTT drama cast members for the third consecutive week. Four Hands, Two Sonatas also remained No. 1 in the TV-OTT integrated drama buzz rankings for the third consecutive week.
