Lee Jun Young has made an unexpected return to the stage just two months after beginning his mandatory military service.
On September 13th, the actor and singer appeared at the 20th Jangsu Korean Beef and Apple Festival in Jangsu County, North Jeolla Province, as a member of the 35th Infantry Division’s military band.
Dressed in a red military band uniform with white pants and sporting a short haircut, Lee appeared healthy and in high spirits. Fans also noticed that his face looked slightly fuller than before his enlistment, giving him a noticeably different look from his recent acting appearances.
But it was his return to performing that drew the most attention. Lee not only took the microphone to sing but also broke into the choreography for J.Y. Park’s “Honey.” After initially standing at attention alongside his fellow military band members, he quickly loosened up once the music began, smiling as he danced across the stage.

The performance was a reminder of Lee’s idol roots. He debuted as a member of U-KISS in 2014 before establishing himself as an actor, and opportunities to see him singing and dancing onstage have become increasingly rare in recent years. Videos and fan-recorded clips of the unexpected performance quickly circulated on social media and online communities.
Lee enlisted as an active-duty soldier on July 21st and is currently serving with the 35th Infantry Division’s military band after completing basic training. Photos from his training completion ceremony released last month also revealed that he had served as a company commander trainee.
Meanwhile, Lee continues to appear onscreen through projects filmed before his enlistment. He currently stars opposite Song Kang in tvN’s Four Hands, Two Sonatas, playing piano prodigy Choi Jung Yo.
