Jung Eun Chae opened up about her relationship with artist Kim Choong Jae and shared how he reacted to her latest drama.
During a September 22nd interview at a cafe in Seoul, Jung Eun Chae was asked how people around her had reacted to Flex X Cop Season 2.
“My social circle isn’t very big, so I don’t get a lot of feedback,” she said. “But since it’s a drama that a lot of people enjoy, I often hear people say, ‘I’ve been watching it,’ when I run into them around the neighborhood.”
Jung Eun Chae has been publicly dating artist Kim Choong Jae since 2023. When asked about his reaction to the drama, she said, “Kim Choong Jae and I respect and support each other’s work, so he told me he enjoyed watching it.”
When asked if there was a particular scene or aspect of the drama that caught his attention, she smiled shyly and replied, “We’re both pretty independent, so there wasn’t anything in particular.”
Jung Eun Chae played Joo Hye Ra, the team leader of the Major Crimes Unit at Kangha Police Station. Reflecting on the character, she said, “Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how the people I admire often show their true charisma when their human side comes through.”
“That’s what makes Joo Hye Ra so appealing,” she continued. “She may seem cold at first, and we don’t learn much about her personal life, but at important moments, she genuinely trusts, relies on, and acknowledges her teammates. I think that’s her greatest strength.”
She also reflected on how much she has come to resemble her character.
“I think I’m more similar to the character than I expected,” she said. “I thought we were very different at first, but I feel like we’ve started to become more alike after playing her for more than six months.”
She said the director actually saw the resemblance from the very beginning. “When we first met, the director told me he immediately thought, ‘She’s the one.’ I was surprised to hear that, too. It made me realize that the way other people see me can be very different from how I see myself.”
Jung Eun Chae has also been drawing attention from female viewers. When asked if she knew why the character had become so popular among women, she laughed and said, “I honestly don’t know.”
“Maybe it’s because she’s such a cool character,” she said. “I think viewers get a sense of satisfaction from watching someone so confident and charismatic. I feel that same sense of excitement when I play her, too.”
Flex x Cop 2, which wrapped up on September 19th, followed a third-generation chaebol who becomes a detective and the new leader of a major crimes unit as they teamed up to solve various cases.
Jung Eun Chae played Joo Hye Ra, the leader of Major Crimes Unit 1 at Kangha Police Station, while Ahn Bo Hyun played Jin Yi Soo, a third-generation chaebol who joins the unit as a detective.
