Jung Eun Chae is joining Flex X Cop 2 as a tough new detective — and Ahn Bo Hyun’s former drill instructor.
Premiering August 7th, the SBS series follows wealthy detective Jin I Soo (Ahn Bo Hyun), who uses his money to crack stalled cases, and his new team leader Joo Hye Ra (played by Jung Eun Chae).
Replacing Park Ji Hyun from Season 1, Jung plays a former ace of the National Police Agency’s counterterrorism unit.
“I was drawn to the show’s wit and satisfying plot,” Jung said of joining the sequel. “I was curious to see how an unfamiliar character like Joo Hye Ra would shake up the already-existing world and eventually fit into it.”
She described Hye Ra as a strong, experienced leader with a rough-around-the-edges but deeply human side. “She has the strength that comes from experience, but she also knows how to listen to and embrace her team,” Jung explained.
The series also marks Jung’s first full-fledged comedy-action role. She said building trust and chemistry with the cast was the key. “I tried to naturally absorb the bright energy we exchanged and become part of the team,” she said.
The season will reunite Hye Ra with I Soo, whom she once put through the wringer as his feared instructor at the police academy.
“They are as different as fire and water, but they also have some surprising similarities,” Jung said. “It will be fun to watch their awkward boss-subordinate relationship gradually turn into a perfect partnership.”
She also praised Ahn Bo Hyun, saying he was always fully immersed in his character on set. “His passion and flexibility were very inspiring,” she said. “He is also incredibly witty and has a really adorable side in real life.”
Flex X Cop 2 premieres August 7th at 9:50 PM KST.
