So Ji Sub’s new drama is proving to be a breakout hit at home and abroad.
The actor’s SBS action drama Agent Kim Reactivated has topped the Global Top 10 Non-English TV chart for the first time, recording 10.5 million views and 44.1 million viewing hours.
The series also ended Teach You a Lesson’s four-week streak at No. 1. Agent Kim Reactivated ranked first in 11 countries, including Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Bolivia and Peru, and landed in the Top 10 in 79 countries.
The drama, which premiered June 26, is based on the webtoon of the same name. It follows the “most ordinary father” who becomes the “most dangerous man” to rescue his only daughter.
Agent Kim Reactivated has also been surging in Korea. It debuted with a 9.5% rating, jumped to 15.7% in episode 2, rose to 18.8% in episode 3 and hit 21.6% with episode 4.
The milestone makes it the first Korean miniseries in two years to pass the 20% mark. Among SBS hits such as The Fiery Priest, Hot Stove League and The Penthouse 2, Agent Kim Reactivated reached that level the fastest and posted the highest fourth-episode rating.
With only 10 episodes planned, viewers are already asking for a second season, especially as some fans feel the webtoon’s story may be too expansive to fit into one season.
SBS, however, is staying cautious. “Season 2 is not officially under discussion. We think the talk is coming from how much love the drama is receiving,” the network said.
