Jung Jun Won has opened up about the criticism he has received over his appearance and acting in a recent drama.

During an interview at a cafe in Seoul on September 14th, Jung Jun Won addressed criticism that his appearance was different from the character in the original work.

He explained that some details can change when a story is adapted. “I wasn’t aware of that when I first read the script. It wasn’t mentioned there,” he said. “I only saw the original character description later.”

He said that when he read the drama script, he was more focused on portraying the character as a kind husband and father. “I talked about it with the director, and we felt that showing the character’s realistic charms was more important,” he said. “So I didn’t pay much attention to that.”

Still, Jung Jun Won admitted that he understood why fans of the original work might have been disappointed. “I think there were definitely some things that disappointed fans of the original,” he said.

When asked about the criticism of his appearance, he laughed and said, “I’m doing my best to manage my appearance. Everyone has different tastes. I’m still working on it.”

He also admitted that the comments about his looks were hurtful. “Of course, it doesn’t feel good,” he said. “But I think it’s something I have to deal with.”

He added, “If people criticized my acting, I would be really upset. But I know what kind of actor I am, so I don’t let it affect me too much. When people call me ugly, I can’t exactly say, ‘I’m happy about that.’ But it’s not my biggest concern.”

Jung Jun Won also spoke about the criticism he received for his appearance on MBC’s Hangout with Yoo, where he appeared to promote his drama A Bona Fide Killer. “I went on the show because I wanted to promote the project,” he said. “I regularly watched the program, and I was also nervous because I’m a big fan of Yoo Jae Suk.”

He said his nerves got the best of him. “I really wanted to do well, but I suddenly froze. My mind went blank, and I couldn’t do anything. I regret making the situation awkward.”

He said he apologized while he was still on set and thanked the production team for trying to make the appearance enjoyable. “Some viewers may have felt uncomfortable, and I understand that,” he said. “Gong Hyo Jin and Yoo Jae Suk both told me it was okay and comforted me.”

He added, “After going through this experience, I realized there are many things I need to work on, so I don’t make the same mistake again.”

Gong Hyo Jin previously mentioned that Jung Jun Won was so nervous while filming the show that he vomited afterward. He said he barely remembers what happened that day.  “I was extremely nervous, so I don’t remember much,” he said. “I remember telling my family that I felt sick.”

As for whether he would appear on a variety show again, Jung Jun Won said, “I’d like to make up for it if I get another chance.”
