MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama A Bona Fide Killer (literal title) is gearing up for launch with a star-studded cast and strong chemistry.
The production team recently shared photos from the drama’s table read. The series follows a working mom with one of the deadliest jobs in the world as she fights to protect her work-life balance, delivering both cathartic laughs and suspense along the way.
Director Yoon Jong Ho and writer Kim Eun Hee were joined at the reading by the drama’s lead cast, including Kong Hyo Jin, Jung Jun Won, Lee Sang Yi and Sung Dong Il.
Kong Hyo Jin stars as Yoo Bona, a sales team manager at Durumi Electronics who also happens to be the legendary sniper Kingfisher. At the reading, Kong brought out both sides of the character, capturing her sharply different identities. “I’ll do my best to make this a fun drama that can comfort many viewers and help them forget the worries of the day,” she said.
Jung Jun Won plays Kwon Tae Sung, Yoo Bona’s husband and a passionate reporter, portraying both his strong sense of justice and his warmth as a family man.
Lee Sang Yi takes on the role of detective Lee Dong Jin, who is relentlessly pursuing Kingfisher. Sung Dong Il also added weight to the story as Kim Bong Pal, an expert at staging deaths as accidents.
A Bona Fide Killer is based on the Kakao Webtoon of the same name, which has racked up 180 million cumulative views. With director Yoon Jong Ho of Lovely Runner and writer Kim Eun Hee of Live Up to Your Name behind the project, the series is already drawing attention as one of this summer’s anticipated releases.
“The table read felt as heated as an actual shoot thanks to the cast’s seamless chemistry,” the production team shared. “The drama will bring together thrilling action, lively humor and a warm family story, so please look forward to it.”
