Choi Cheol Ho is opening up about the hardships he has faced since stepping away from the spotlight, revealing that he now works overnight warehouse shifts to support his family.
The actor, once known for his roles in numerous hit dramas, appeared on MBN’s Exclusive World, where he shared a candid look at his life following a highly publicized assault controversy and the collapse of his business ventures.
In the program, Choi was shown working at a logistics center, unloading delivery boxes during overnight shifts.
Recalling his first days on the job, he admitted the physical demands were overwhelming. “My hands were badly swollen by the second day,” he said. “I thought I couldn’t do it, but after a few days, I got used to it.”
Choi explained that as acting opportunities became increasingly scarce, he turned to business to make a living. However, financial difficulties compounded by the pandemic left him buried in debt.
According to Choi, his wife and child moved in with her family while his parents entered a nursing facility. Desperate to earn money, he took a fellow actor’s recommendation and began working at the warehouse.
“At that point, I wasn’t in a position to be picky,” he said.
The actor also revealed that he currently lives in a small studio apartment with a roommate and sends much of what he earns to support his family. In addition to warehouse work, he said he also takes on car-washing jobs whenever possible.
Choi addressed the 2010 incident that dramatically altered the course of his career, when he was involved in an assault case involving a younger female colleague.
Reflecting on the controversy, he admitted that his response afterward remains one of his biggest regrets. “When a reporter called, I lied without even a moment’s hesitation,” he said. “That was the most foolish thing I’ve ever done in my life. It should never have happened.”
He added, “I’ve learned that every mistake comes with consequences.”
Despite the difficulties, Choi said he continues to reflect on the past while hoping for another opportunity to stand before audiences in the future.
