Malicious comments have flooded the social media accounts of content creator Yoo Ji Yoo following intense dating and marriage rumors between her and DAY6 member Dowoon.
A touching message from her mother has caught the attention of fans online amid the negativity.
A comment believed to be from Yoo’s mother appeared under a video on her YouTube channel on May 28th. The message read, “Ji Yoo, don’t even look at the hateful comments. Just ignore them. You only need to focus on yourself. You know what I mean.”
Fans interpreted the post as a mother’s message to protect her daughter from the sudden influx of public scrutiny. Long-time subscribers and supportive DAY6 fans have also rallied to leave encouraging messages alongside her family’s support.
The dating speculation began last month when alleged evidence and eyewitness accounts started circulating online. Netizens pointed out striking similarities between the two, noting matching phone stickers, keyrings and even identical home decor. The rumors gained more traction when a dog photographed in Dowoon’s car appeared to be the exact same breed as Yoo’s pet. The gossip escalated to marriage rumors soon after, following specific claims that the couple had been spotted with a wedding planner.
Dowoon’s agency, JYP Entertainment, simply replied, “We have no separate statement,” when asked for comment on May 26th. The public widely perceived this vague response as an indirect confirmation, causing the rumors to spiral into extreme speculation that DAY6 might disband.
Dowoon took to his personal social media account on May 28th to address the situation directly to calm an increasingly anxious fanbase. “Our band will never disband, even if we die. I’m not going anywhere,” he wrote. “Please ignore the negative comments, and even if you see posts about me, try to look past them. I’m so sorry for causing any discomfort. Please hang in there and wait just a little longer.”
Dowoon debuted in 2015 as the drummer for the popular K-pop rock band DAY6, which is known for hit songs like “You Were Beautiful” and “Welcome to the Show.” Yoo Ji Yoo is a well-known content creator who first gained popularity on the variety show Ulzzang Era (literal translation) and is also known as the younger sister of influencer Yoo Hye Joo.
