DAY6’s Dowoon has spoken out after being swept up in dating rumors with YouTuber Yu Ji Yu (buddle_u).
The drummer shared an apology to the band’s fandom, My Day, asking fans to “wait a little” as speculation around his relationship status continues to grow.
Recently, rumors that Dowoon and Yu Ji Yu are dating spread across online communities and social media. Some netizens pointed to alleged matching interior decor items and keyrings, while others noted that the two appeared to share several mutual acquaintances on Instagram. Speculation intensified after some claimed a dog seen in Dowoon’s car may have been Yu’s pet. Soon, what began as dating rumors later grew into marriage speculation.
JYP Entertainment stayed cautious, saying it had “no statement” on the matter. On May 26th, when new content was uploaded to Dowoon’s personal YouTube channel, some fans left frustrated comments expressing their disappointment.
Dowoon eventually addressed the situation himself, using the same Instagram Story he often uses to communicate with fans.
“Our team is never going away,” he wrote. “I’m not going anywhere, so don’t even look at the bad posts. For now, even if you see posts about me, ignore them. I’m sorry I hurt you. Please wait just a little.”
However, some fans have expressed even more frustration over the response. With the rumors having expanded beyond dating speculation into marriage rumors, many were disappointed that he chose to share a brief personal message through Instagram Stories instead of offering a clearer official explanation.
Fans have also pointed out that Dowoon did not clarify how long “for now” would be, or whether asking them to “wait a little” means a more detailed statement will follow. The vague response has left some fans feeling more unsettled rather than reassured.
Dowoon, born in 1995, debuted in 2015 as the drummer of DAY6. Yu Ji Yu, born in 1996, is a YouTuber and influencer. She is also known as the younger sister of YouTuber Yu Hye Ju.
