Lee Jae Wook surprised fans with a video message from the military during the press conference for Netflix’s upcoming series Dead-End Job.

The press conference took place on the morning of October 28 at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul in Yeongdeungpo. Director Kim Da Min, executive producer Han Jun Hee, and cast members Kim Min Ha and Lee Hee Joon attended the event. Lee Jae Wook and Go Min Si were absent, but Lee sent a video message to greet the press.

“I play Hyuk Jun, a man at the lowest point in his life who gets the chance to take on an extremely high-paying part-time job,” Lee said in the video. “The story begins when Hyuk Jun visits a staffing agency that offers jobs paying 50 times the usual hourly rate. I’ll be cheering on Dead-End Job while fulfilling my military service.”

Dead-End Job is a horror series about the struggle to make a living. The story follows Hyuk Jun, a young man who takes on strange jobs at Spider Staffing, an unusual agency offering wages starting at 50 times the standard hourly rate. However, each job sends him into a nightmarish workplace.

Director Kim Da Min described Hyuk Jun as a relatable character who struggles to get by but refuses to give up.

“He’s someone who makes you feel for him because of how hard his life is,” Kim said. “Even when he goes through tough situations, his determination to survive comes out, making you want to root for him.”

Executive producer Han Jun Hee also praised Lee’s acting range and explained why he was cast in the role.

“Lee Jae Wook can express contrasting qualities, such as strength and flexibility, as well as a willingness to humble himself and a stubborn streak,” Han said. “You’ll get to see hundreds of different sides of him in this series.”

Lee’s co-stars also shared fond memories of working with him. Kim Min Ha, who plays his younger sister in the series, said Lee took good care of her despite being three years younger.

“He looked after me so well on set,” she recalled. “We had a comfortable and fun time filming without any awkwardness. Our chemistry as a real-life brother and sister comes through in the way we bicker whenever we make eye contact.”

Lee Hee Joon also praised Lee Jae Wook for his kindness toward the cast and crew.

“He must have been physically exhausted himself, but whenever it got hot, he would bring over a fan,” Lee Hee Joon said. “I was impressed by how he took care of everyone, including the supporting actors.”

Dead-End Job marks director Kim Da Min’s first time directing a full-length series. She previously wrote the Netflix series A Killer Paradox and drew attention with her film FAQ. Han Jun Hee, known for directing Netflix’s D.P. and Weak Hero, serves as the series’ executive producer.

Lee Jae Wook stars as Hyuk Jun, a young man who takes on unusually high-paying jobs to make ends meet, only to encounter bizarre and terrifying events. Go Min Si plays Yeon Ju, a woman who circles around Spider Staffing and approaches Hyuk Jun. Kim Min Ha plays Ji Yoon, Hyuk Jun’s younger sister, who fears becoming poor more than she fears ghosts. Lee Hee Joon plays the mysterious owner of Spider Staffing.

The eight-episode series Honey Job premieres on Netflix on October 30 at 5 PM KST.
