BTS member Jungkook has been identified as one of the victims in a major international hacking case tied to stolen personal data and financial account theft.

According to South Korea’s Ministry of Justice on May 13th, a Chinese national in his 40s — identified only as A — was extradited from Thailand to Korea on May 12th. Authorities allege he led an overseas hacking organization responsible for stealing more than 38 billion won ($25.4 million) through hacked financial and cryptocurrency accounts.

Investigators say the group hacked domestic websites between August 2023 and April 2026, stealing personal information that was then used to open mobile phone accounts and access victims’ financial accounts.

During the investigation, Jungkook was reportedly revealed to be among those targeted. Shortly after beginning his military service, someone allegedly attempted to steal HYBE shares worth around 8.4 billion won ($5.6 million) by using his identity to access a securities account.

Fortunately, the attempt did not lead to any actual financial losses after his agency quickly detected the issue and froze the account.

Authorities have been tracking the hacking group through cooperation with Interpol. Last August, another high-ranking member of the organization was extradited and indicted, with the latest suspect now also transferred to Korea for prosecution.
