Lim Ji Yeon and Heo Nam Jun’s fantasy romance series My Royal Nemesis is quickly turning into Netflix’s latest global breakout.

According to FlixPatrol, the drama ranked No. 2 worldwide in Netflix’s TV category on May 10th.

The series topped Netflix charts in 23 countries, including South Korea, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It also continued gaining traction in the U.S. — Netflix’s largest market — where it stayed in the Top 10 for a second consecutive day.

Viewer ratings are also on the rise. The drama premiered with a 4.1% nationwide rating on the 8th before climbing to 5.4% by episode two, fueled by strong word-of-mouth buzz.

The show’s latest episodes have helped build momentum with viewers thanks to its mix of fantasy, comedy and romance.

Waking up in modern-day Korea after dying by poison in the Joseon era, Shin Seo Ri begins adjusting to her unfamiliar new life.

Along the way, she experiences unconditional love for the first time through her grandmother, Nam Ok Soon, while trying to survive in a tiny boarding house.

Seo Ri also unexpectedly goes viral after a behind-the-scenes video exposing power tripping on a drama set spreads online as a new meme.

As clips circulate across social media, Cha Se Gye eventually joins forces with Seo Ri, while Seo Ri lands a part-time home shopping job and earns the nickname “sell-out fairy” after repeatedly selling out products on-air.

The ending of episode two added another layer of intrigue for viewers.

A flashback hinted at a connection between Seo Ri and Se Gye dating back 300 years, revealing that the man who once rescued Seo Ri from a wooden chest in the past had the exact same face as present-day Cha Se Gye. With the mystery surrounding the characters beginning to unfold, anticipation for the next episodes is continuing to build.
