Lately, Single’s Inferno 5 has been the talk of Netflix shows. Due to the player dynamics and unique chemistry on-screen, this new season evokes a lot of emotions and opinions from both the panel and viewers alike.
The judges tend to be painfully honest and it was recently revealed that the panel was reprimanded by the Netflix production team for their harsh remarks towards the players during the program. The host panel consists of Kyuhyun, Hanhae, Lee Da Hee, Hong Jin Kyung and DEX. During episode eight, when the judges were seen having a heated discussion regarding contestant Mina Sue Choi’s indecisiveness and alleged mind games, they soon admitted their comments may became too harsh. Hong Jin Kyung in particularly was noted for saying, “Enough already,” when Mina Sue Choi kept bouncing between male contestants. This reason in particular made the staff step in to remind the hosts to be mindful of what they are saying.
As the episode continued, during Mina Sue’s date with contestant Seung Il, she went back and forth between which men she felt attracted to and even claimed others, who seemed to no longer be on her mind, are still her romantic interests. Her fickle behavior left the judges feeling like she was being greedy and trying to take away any men who showed interest in her. In the beginning, after the campfire truth game, Mina Sue admitted her pure interest in Seung Il, but it seemed she was using him as time went on. However, the judges felt relieved when Seung Il expressed his fatigue with Mina Sue’s behaviors after telling her to “Do what you want, because you do that anyway,” which led her to say, “Don’t tell me what to do.”
During the date in Paradise, Mina Sue even brought up Sung Hun, which led Seung Il to further comment that, “I am focusing on the person I like, and I wouldn’t invite someone to Paradise, after they admitted they have feelings for me, out of pity. Do I need to take an interest in something like that?”
The judges admitted they were happy that Seung Il said everything they were thinking. DEX pointed out, “Honestly, even we MCs have limits to what we can say. But when the participants themselves bring it up, viewers, including us, feel relieved.” Hong Jin Kyung further shared, “We’ve also been called in during breaks by the production team to be reminded about our comments and holding back. We had to receive education about softening our language.” However, Seung Il played a big role in speaking up and saying what had been on everyone’s minds.
Despite this, it seems that the judges felt the need to apologize a second time after witnessing Mina Sue cry on screen. She expressed how contestant Min Gee’s harsh words that judged her character and emotions made her feel disrespected. When Min Gee said, “You don’t know yourself well,” it struck a chord with Mina Sue and provoked her to cry off set, which caused the judges to react and reevaluate how harsh they might have been in the past when judging Mina Sue’s character, again, as if they knew her personally.
They cheered for Mina Sue and pointed out her maturity towards the end of the show and commented that she seems very prideful and easily wounded when her actions are deemed wrong by others. It seems all the drama surrounding Mina Sue isn’t just shaking things up on the island but even the judge’s panel, too!
