Single’s Inferno has been notably one of Netflix’s most popular international dating programs. With an increased interest in Korean culture, viewers wonder how Korean’s fall in love and the match-making trials and tribulations that come with their not-so-K-Drama romance.
Single’s Inferno 5 released four jaw-dropping episodes and introduced a more eccentric and colorful cast than before. With notably more English-speaking overseas contestants, unique media personalities, and unexpected career holders, the series has found a formula that makes this season particularly more enticing to watch.
Compared to past seasons, Single’s Inferno 5 has more laugh-out-loud moments and doesn’t seem shy about letting contestants venture out while expressing their true character. Before, contestants felt out on display for the world to judge while maintaining a facade. This time, contestants are vocal, dynamic and genuinely filled with surprises. Kim Hae Jin surprised with his serious appearance and diligent dancer background being contrasted by his warm and humorous personality. Woo Sung Min is someone who had no real media background, working as an optician, but has an overwhelming cute charm and puppy-like face that counterbalances the model-like images we see in Youn Hyun Jae and Song Seung Il.
Of all the contestants, there are two must-watch beauties on the island that are keeping viewers glued to the screen: Mina Sue Choi and Kim Min Gee. Both have experience being on TV and reality shows, as well as maintaining a public image. Min Gee is a celebrated track and field athlete who appeared on King of Masked Singer, Shooting Stars, and King of Survival: Tribal War. Mina Sue is a natural and professional beauty queen who was one of the first Korean women to win Miss Earth in 2022. She lived abroad in various countries like Australia, the U.S., and China and also appeared on the Korean competition show Battle for Tenancy: Penthouse in 2022.
Although rumors seem to be dragging Mina Sue for having a complex personality and criticizing her for “messy behavior,” she seems to be the most genuine and is merely playing the game. Compared to other Korean contestants, she has experience living abroad, so her flirtatious personality and directness do not sync with Korean standards. Mina Sue also seems proactive in mixing things up and enjoys the romantic spontaneity rather than chasing it down intensely. Her scenes are always worth watching rather than skipping over. Lee Sung Hun (Samuel) also seems to share the same unusual style of communicating due to his time living abroad in NYC and finding comfort in speaking English. He seems to latch on to Mina Sue and only finds comfort in her, which will create a must-see scenario since other men have their sights on her. A fight for love will surely ensue.

Predictions for the season seem to go every which way, but it seems like Kim Min Gee will coast through with an unexpectedly earnest guy on her side, while Mina Sue will draw a line between men and directly express who she’s after, which will ultimately shatter some hearts (on and off-screen). Kim Hae Jin seems like a contestant who will walk away with a budding relationship as well.
As for the show’s dynamics, this season seems well put together. Contestants work harder to “harvest” their food and the luxurious views of the Paradise suites make anyone want to book a trip to Korea ASAP. The games are more involved, with a good focus on skin-ship or forced interactions. There are also many games that exclude contestants, causing them to be in a vulnerable situation and feel behind, which makes the race for love more entertaining for viewers.
Previous seasons had contestants under fire for being too “sexual” after lying in bed together and spending the night, but season 5 encourages more tactful challenges that draw out these scenarios such as with a couple’s dodgeball matches using men for shields and coupled photoshoots in swimwear.
With Single’s Inferno 5 packing so much more content and feeling more limitless, it is no surprise it climbed to the Top 2 spot for TV Shows Today on Netflix. This season trumps other seasons as the contestants are boldly playing the game and having viewers drawn to an, albeit TV-made, but more substantive romance. With just four episodes, viewers are already hooked, and the finale will surely end in an unforgettable blaze.
