Koo Jun Yup, aka DJ Koo, has shared an intimate look at the memorial sculpture he created in honor of his late wife, Barbie Hsu, marking one year since her passing.

Yesterday, Koo released a video documenting the creation of the tribute. The project was completed after months of collaboration with a leading Taiwanese art team and features stainless steel and cast brass, with the main sculpture standing approximately 330 centimeters tall.

“It has already been a year since Barbie left us,” Koo said in the video. “I wanted her to always stay by our side, so I created this sculpture.” He added, “She used to say she was an alien from outer space, so I wanted to create her own galaxy.”

The installation includes nine cubes symbolizing the nine planets, a number Hsu considered lucky. Koo also shared that the sculpture faces 208 degrees south, toward Taipei, where Hsu’s family and Koo live. “The number 208 also represents our wedding anniversary, February 8th,” he explained.

A private unveiling ceremony was held the same day, attended by family and close friends. Thanking those who traveled to attend, Koo broke down in tears and said, “Barbie, I miss you.”

Koo also shared a handwritten letter addressed to his late wife. “When I sit on the edge of our empty bed, I still cannot tell if this is reality or a dream,” he wrote. “When I drive to see you, tears fall without end.”

“I am sorry for showing such a weak side,” he added. “But this is the only way I know to ease my longing.” He closed with, “When we meet again, let us be together forever. I miss you. I miss you more than anything.”

Barbie Hsu passed away last February while traveling in Japan due to influenza-related pneumonia and sepsis. The couple, who first met in 1998, reunited more than two decades later and married in 2022.
