Gong Hyo Jin shared how her husband, singer Kevin Oh, reacted to her on-screen romantic moments during an interview for her new film The People Upstairs.
The actress spoke about the project and also revealed how marriage has subtly influenced her choices. When asked if her selection process has changed since tying the knot, Gong Hyo Jin admitted, “A bit, I guess. After getting married, I do find myself thinking differently when choosing projects. For example, I didn’t invite my dad to the premiere this time—I worried he might clear his throat in embarrassment. Now that I have a new family, I’m more aware of how things might feel for them when they watch.”
She then laughed while sharing Kevin Oh’s honest reaction to her romance scenes. “Kevin isn’t an actor, so when he watches those scenes, he says, ‘It feels weird,’” she said. “He says he needs to get used to it, but then he’ll go, ‘I’m not watching that part.’ If he’s still getting jealous, I’m grateful. It’s cute.” Gong added that while it doesn’t affect her decisions professionally, she does feel a little apologetic.
The People Upstairs follows four neighbors whose lives become entangled after nightly, the “unusual” upstairs noises lead the upstairs couple (Ha Jung Woo and Lee Ha Nee) and the downstairs couple (Gong Hyo Jin and Kim Dong Wook) to sit down for an unexpected dinner. The film hits theaters on December 3rd.
