The woman who spread rumors about actor Lee Yi Kyung has issued yet another apology.
The woman posted on her social media on November 19th, saying, “I wanted to speak one last time.” She continued, “I deeply apologize for causing confusion with the post I uploaded. The truth is, I said everything a lie because I was scared. I lied out of fear of being sued or having to pay money, and to avoid burdening myself and my family.”
She also clarified, “AI cannot create photos of celebrities, and I have never used AI in that way. All the evidence I shared was real. However, I don’t want to bring more attention to this story.” She added, “Even though it’s unrelated to this incident, if there are other victims, I’m speaking out because I’m worried that their courage might be dismissed as AI fabrication, which would only harm them further.”
The individual, who identified herself as a German national, shared messages last month that she claimed to have exchanged with the actor. She posted conversations with a contact saved as ‘Lee Yi Kyung,’ which reportedly included selfies of the actor and sexually explicit remarks.
In response, Lee Yi Kyung’s agency, Sangyoung ENT, issued a statement, saying, “We have filed a lawsuit with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul against the creators and distributors of the related posts on charges of spreading false information and defamation.” The agency added, “There have been no discussions about a settlement or compensation regarding this matter.”
As the controversy grew, she initially said, “I didn’t expect a post that started as a joke to get so much attention. I wrote the post and used AI photos.” However, she later reversed her statement, admitting, “Claiming I used AI was a lie. I have never been sued.”
UPDATE
Lee Yi Kyung’s side has released a third official statement regarding the woman’s claim.
On November 19th, Sangyoung ENT stated, “We have initiated legal proceedings against the individual responsible for the posts attacking Lee Yi Kyung, and we are filing charges for blackmail and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.”
The agency continued, “We became aware of the incident on November 3rd and promptly filed a formal complaint. We understand that identifying the suspect and concluding the police investigation will take some time, while the initial questioning of the complainant has been completed. We are currently monitoring the progress through our legal representatives and are fully cooperating to ensure a swift resolution.”
They concluded with a firm warning: “The malicious actions of the writer and those spreading these rumors have caused severe damage to both the actor and the agency. We are fully aware that these actions are punishable crimes, regardless of whether the perpetrator is located in Korea or abroad. Therefore, even if the process takes time, we intend to pursue a strict legal response with absolutely no leniency.”
