Soyou has come under renewed scrutiny after publicly alleging she was the victim of racial discrimination on a U.S. flight—with a fellow passenger now claiming that the singer was heavily drunk at the time.
Earlier this week, Soyou took to Instagram to share her experience aboard an American airline, stating that she was treated unfairly by the cabin crew. Posting a photo of her boarding pass, she wrote, “I was exhausted and simply asked for a Korean flight attendant to check the meal schedule, but the purser immediately assumed I was a problem passenger and even called security.”
She continued, “I had to say, ‘If I’m a problem, I’ll just get off the plane.’ For the rest of the 15-hour flight, I endured cold stares and attitudes. I couldn’t eat anything and kept wondering, ‘Was that racial discrimination?’ It was an experience that left a deep wound rooted in prejudice.”
However, shortly after her post went viral, a user identifying themselves as a fellow passenger on the same flight came forward with a contradicting account. The individual, referred to as A, commented, “I was on the same flight. Soyou was drunk. She said she wouldn’t eat because she was tired, and I even heard staff telling her that she shouldn’t board while intoxicated. To then call it racism is unfair.”
A added, “At first, I didn’t realize it was her because it was a night flight, but things got noisy after takeoff. She herself said she was drunk and couldn’t read the menu, which is why she asked for a Korean crew member. There was no security involved. As a Korean and a fan, I was honestly embarrassed watching the situation unfold.”
Though the witness’s claims have not been independently verified, Soyou is now facing growing scrutiny as public debate intensifies over what truly happened aboard the flight.
