Former NCT member Taeil has been indicted without detention on charges of quasi-rape.
According to legal sources on the 4th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women and Children’s Crime Investigation Division 1 announced that they indicted Taeil and two accomplices without detention on charges of quasi-rape under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act on February 28th.
The charge of quasi-rape applies when individuals use weapons or two or more people jointly assault a victim who is mentally incapacitated or unable to resist. It has been reported that the accused did not possess weapons during the alleged incident.
The Seoul Bangbae Police Station filed arrest warrants for the three suspects after receiving a victim’s report in June last year. However, the court rejected the warrants, stating that “detention necessity is low as they have admitted to the offense.” The police subsequently summoned Taeil for questioning in August of the same year and referred the case to prosecutors in September.
Meanwhile, Taeil, who debuted with NCT in 2016, was removed from SM Entertainment in October last year due to this incident.
