The Jo Malone London photo call event was canceled due to the emergency martial law declared and lifted by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on December 4th.
According to reports, the Jo Malone London Holiday Pop-up event, initially scheduled for 5:30 PM on Wednesday, was ultimately called off.
The brand had originally planned a Christmas pop-up event in Seoul, featuring a photo call with prominent celebrities, including South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun, STAYC’s Sieun, and WJSN’s Yeoreum.
However, following Yoon’s emergency address on Tuesday night and the subsequent declaration of martial law, South Korea’s entertainment industry was thrown into disarray. Although the state of emergency was lifted early Wednesday morning, the photo call event was ultimately canceled.
A Jo Malone London representative addressed the situation, stating, “The Jo Malone London Holiday Pop-up photo event scheduled for today has been canceled due to the national state of emergency. After carefully considering various emergencies and safety concerns, we made this decision. We ask for your understanding and patience during this challenging time.”
On Tuesday night, Yoon delivered an emergency address from the Yongsan Presidential Office, stating, “This state of emergency will allow us to rebuild and protect the free Republic of Korea, which is on the brink of collapse.” He further emphasized, “We will decisively root out the causes of the nation’s decline and eradicate anti-state forces that have caused havoc until now.”
Shorter after at around 1 AM, the South Korean Cabinet approved lifting the state of emergency. By 4:40 AM, Yoon officially announced the end of martial law. However, he urged the National Assembly to “immediately stop the reckless acts that paralyze state functions through repeated impeachment attempts and legislative manipulation.”
