The Disney Content Showcase APAC 2024, held over two days on November 20th and 21st at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Center in Singapore, was a star-studded event that celebrated Disney’s theatrical and streaming content lineup for 2025 and beyond. Among the highlights was a strong emphasis on Korean content, underscoring its global appeal.
The showcase featured sneak peeks and exclusive footage from Disney’s creative studios worldwide, along with announcements for upcoming Korean and Japanese series debuting on Disney Plus. More than 400 members of the press from 12 Asia-Pacific countries, including 110 journalists from South Korea, attended the event.
Among the attendees were Luke Kang, President of The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific; Dana Walden, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment; Anthony Mackie from Captain America: Brave New World; and leading Korean talents, including Writer Kangfull, Director Kim Hee Won, Ju Ji Hoon, Park Bo Young of Light Shop; Kim Hye Soo and Jung Sung Il from Unmasked; Ryu Seung Ryong, Yang Se Jong, and Lim Soo Jung from Low Life; Park Eun Bin and Sul Kyung Gu from Hyper Knife; Kim Soo Hyun and Jo Bo Ah from Knock-Off; and Kim Da Mi and Son Suk Ku from Nine Puzzles.
One of the most anticipated presentations was for Light Shop, the upcoming Disney Plus original series by Kangfull, the acclaimed creator of the global hit Moving. Directed by Kim Hee Won, Light Shop was the only project to feature a full press screening and Q&A session during the event. Ahead of its December 4th premiere, exclusive footage was shown to over 500 journalists, receiving a standing ovation and roaring applause after the 30-minute preview.
Carol Choi, Head of Original Content Strategy for Disney Asia Pacific, reflected on Disney Plus’s success in the region. “Over the past three years, we’ve launched more than 130 original titles from the Asia-Pacific region on Disney Plus, thanks to the hard work of our local content teams and the incredible support of our leaders,” she said.
She continued, “Last year, nine Korean titles ranked among the most-viewed global content on Disney Plus. The Korean action drama A Shop of Killers became the most-watched title in the APAC region on Disney Plus and continues to be hugely popular. Meanwhile, BTS members Jimin and Jungkook’s travelogue series Are You Sure?! was the most-viewed variety show in the region and one of the highest-watched globally. These metrics show us that our content is resonating more and more with global audiences.”
Fans were also thrilled by the announcement of Moving 2, the follow-up to last year’s breakout hit. Choi shared, “This is the first time we’re officially announcing this. We’ve begun development on Moving Season 2 with Kangfull,” adding, “However, it’s still in the very early stages, so more details will come later.”
The second day of the event focused heavily on Disney’s Korean originals, including upcoming releases like Unmasked, Low Life, Hyper Knife, Knock-Off, and Nine Puzzles. The series are slated to roll out between December 2024 and 2025, beginning with Light Shop on December 4th.
