Lee Do Hyun has officially chosen his next big-screen project following the massive success of Exhuma.

According to industry insiders, Lee will star in the Korean remake of Netflix romance film Viva La Vida, directed by Park Dan Hee, with filming expected to begin later this year.

Based on the hit Netflix film released in 2024, the story follows two strangers living with terminal illnesses who form an unexpected bond and help each other rediscover the meaning of life and love during their remaining time together.

Lee Do Hyun will reportedly play a brain tumor patient whose cancer has returned after surgery. His character becomes connected to the female lead after accidentally coming across a video about her search for a kidney donor.

While the remake is expected to make changes to better fit Korean audiences, the project is already drawing attention for its emotional story centered on life, death and love.

The film will mark Lee Do Hyun’s first movie in about two years since Exhuma, the supernatural blockbuster that surpassed 10 million moviegoers and established him as one of Korean cinema’s fastest-rising stars. His performance in the film also earned him several major rookie acting awards, including honors at the Baeksang Arts Awards and Director’s Cut Awards.

After completing his military service last May, Lee first returned with the Netflix series Grand Galaxy Hotel, which recently wrapped filming. Viva La Vida will now mark his official film comeback — and notably, his first leading role on the big screen.

The film is also director Park Dhan Hee’s first movie project since Blue Birthday in 2022. Pre-production and casting are currently underway, with filming targeted for early fall.
