Kim Soo Hyun may be one step closer to resolving his legal disputes after one of the advertisers suing him significantly reduced its damages claim.

The Seoul Central District Court recently held a hearing in a lawsuit filed by outdoor brand Eider against Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist.

Eider originally sought 2.5 billion won ($1.7 million), claiming Kim Soo Hyun’s controversy damaged its brand, according to Star News on July 9th. However, the company has since reduced its claim to 400 million won ($290,000) after dropping its demand for compensation over reputational damage. The remaining claim reportedly seeks the return of endorsement fees following the early termination of Kim Soo Hyun’s contract.

During the hearing, the court questioned whether the revised lawsuit should continue at all. The judge noted that both Eider and Kim Soo Hyun’s sides were victims of the false information allegedly spread by Kim Se Eui, who has been indicted on defamation charges. The court also pointed out that Kim Soo Hyun is reportedly in talks to resolve similar disputes with other advertisers and encouraged both sides to reach a settlement.

Kim Soo Hyun is currently facing lawsuits from multiple brands totaling around 10 billion won (about $6.7 million). The outcome of the Eider case could influence negotiations with the remaining advertisers.

The next hearing is scheduled for August 26th. If the two sides reach an agreement, it could mark a major turning point in the series of lawsuits tied to the controversy.
