Shin Ye Eun is sharing the story behind her buzzed-about kiss scene with Lee Jae Wook.

The Doctor on the Edge star recently opened up about working with Lee, who is the same age as her, and said their chemistry came easily from the start.

“I had never worked with Jae Wook before, but we had run into each other at movie premieres and events,” she said. “Since we’re the same age, I figured we might work together someday, so I was happy it happened.”

She added with a laugh, “He always brought a box of snacks for the staff, and I remember eating most of them.”

Shin said she could feel Lee’s experience on set despite their being the same age. “I could sense more depth from him,” she said. “He’s a very talented actor.”

Lee enlisted as an active-duty soldier on May 18, shortly before Doctor on the Edge premiered. At the drama’s press conference, Shin promised the cast would visit him if the drama performed well.

“If someone says, ‘Let’s go,’ I think we’d go right away,” she said. “For some reason, all my male co-stars go to the military after working with me. I started wondering, ‘Why?’ Maybe I’m the partner who sends them off to the army.”

Several of Shin’s former co-stars, including Ong Seong Wu, Kim Myung Soo, Park Jin Young, Kang Tae Oh, Seo Ji Hoon and Rowoon, enlisted after working with her.

Shin also said she and Lee clicked so well from the start. “Age isn’t everything, but since we’re the same age, we had a lot in common, from our interests to the kinds of things people our age worry about,” she said. “That helped when we were acting. Even without saying, ‘I want you to do this here,’ we just understood each other.”

One scene in particular lit up social media after it aired: the kiss scene that pushed the main couple’s romance forward.

“The script said, ‘bite the lip,’ so I really thought I was supposed to boldly bite his lip,” Shin said with a laugh. “It turned out that, in production terms, it meant to gently close my lips.”

Even though she misunderstood the direction, the response on set was enthusiastic.

“The director and staff said, ‘Actually, the version where she lightly bites his lip feels much more like Hari and works better,’ so we kept it,” Shin said. “In the end, I think it became a scene that really showed Hari’s quirky and fearless personality, so I’m happy with it.”
