Beloved Chuseok has arrived. It is even better to celebrate the warm holiday by watching your favorite K-pop idols with family and friends. While you feast on hearty Korean dishes with loved ones, let’s enjoy videos of KBS Music Bank winners bringing the traditional hanbok back in style for today’s youth.
MAMAMOO
The popular girl group mixed traditional hanbok with their stylish crop tops, pants, and mini shorts. MAMAMOO’s stage costumes for “AYA” was a perfect blend of feminine and masculine hanboks. Fans from all walks of life could be motivated to wear traditional clothing after seeing them. The latest KBS MUSIC BANK title MAMAMOO won as a band was in November 2019 for their “Hip” song.
BLACKPINK
The global music stars used traditional hanbok in creating their sexy “How You Like That” costumes. BLACKPINK didn’t wear the typical long dresses, but they incorporated part of the hanbok design into their crop tops, mini dresses, and mini skirts. It was a very clever way to get today’s youth talking about traditional hanbok. The last KBS Music Bank trophy BLACKPINK won as a group was for their single “Lovesick Girls” in October 2020.
NCT 127
They put their own spin on traditional hanboks by sporting a martial arts inspired tunic. They left a positive representation of the past by expertly mixing traditional with modern style for the stage performance of the song “Kick It.” In NCT 127 scored a KBS Music Bank trophy two weeks in a row in August for their single “Walk.”
IVE’s Jang Wonyoung
She resembled a winter princess during a 2022 new year episode of KBS Music Bank. She hosted alongside actor Lee Chae Min during a period, and the pair looked ready to walk the runway at a fashion show. The last time her girl group won a KBS Music Bank award was April 2023 for their single “I AM.”
ONEUS
The idols resemble royalty from another era. They wore shorter versions of hanbok for their stage performance of “Luna.” A traditional Korean drama came to life when they started dancing in the stunning hanboks. ONEUS received their latest KBS Music Bank honor in October 2023 for the song “Baila Conmigo.”
