After months of conflicting claims, Song Ha Yoon‘s legal team says her school violence accuser has now been referred to prosecutors following a police reinvestigation.

On July 16th, her legal representative, Jieum Law Firm, shared that the accuser is now facing charges. Song had previously sued the accuser for defamation, obstruction of business, and making threats under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.

The case has taken a complex procedural path. Initially, police decided not to forward the case to prosecutors in February, essentially clearing the accuser of the charges. However, Song’s legal team appealed the decision in March. The prosecution accepted the appeal and ordered a supplementary investigation. After three months, police overturned their initial ruling, concluding that the accuser had indeed committed criminal offenses, and officially handed the case over to the prosecution on June 16th.

Jieum Law Firm explained that the previous decision was changed after the prosecution ordered a further investigation. The firm said the record was misunderstood, explaining that it showed the case was still being handled by prosecutors, not that the accuser had been cleared.

The firm said Song Ha Yoon’s side chose not to respond publicly after the case was sent to prosecutors, wanting to avoid unnecessary media attention and wait for the final decision. However, they decided to speak out after a June media report incorrectly suggested that the accuser had been cleared again after the reinvestigation.

“A has not only spread groundless rumors about Song Ha Yoon but is now causing further harm by distorting the details of the ongoing investigation,” the law firm stated, warning that they are considering additional legal action against those misleading the public.

Through her lawyers, Song also shared a personal message, apologizing for the ongoing worry the situation has caused. “I wanted to avoid playing this out in the media and have been quietly waiting for the prosecution’s final decision,” Song said. “However, I felt it was necessary to step forward and correct the facts with false information spreading once again. Please wait just a bit longer for the final investigation results.”

The controversy began in 2024 when the accuser appeared on JTBC’s current affairs program Crime Chief, claiming he was physically assaulted by Song in school 20 years ago. Song has vehemently denied all allegations from the start, maintaining that the claims are entirely fabricated.
