In a recent episode of the web content “Suchwita” on the YouTube channel “BANGTANTV,” IU appeared as a guest and shared several stories, including the behind-the-scenes of her collaboration with BTS’s Suga on the song “Eight.” The song, released in 2020, marked the beginning of their connection.

Suga interestingly mentioned, “I wasn’t the one you had in mind first for the collaboration, right?” sparking attention to their partnership.

IU responded, “Initially, I asked (Suga) if I could get RM‘s contact. At that time, I wasn’t in the best mental state. I thought I should turn these feelings into a song and got RM’s contact, but I never ended up reaching out to him.” She went on, “Just asking Suga took a lot of courage and was quite impulsive. Once I got the contact, I didn’t have the courage to reach out to someone I didn’t know.”

For IU, conceptualizing “Eight” was turning her feelings into a song. “My listlessness felt like the number’ 8,’ continuously going on. It was also because I was twenty-eight,” she explained.

The singer referred to Suga as “the best producer of the same age” and candidly opened up about collaborating with him. Recalling working with Suga, IU praised him, saying, “I think he is the best producer of the same age. There was a difference when working on ‘Eight’ and recording ‘People Pt.2.’ When working on his own songs, he clearly has high standards and is strict with himself.”
