Netflix series The East Palace has unveiled character posters for Nam Joo Hyuk, Roh Yoon Seo and Cho Seung Woo.

The East Palace follows Gu Cheon (played by Nam Joo Hyuk), who can cross into the Spirit World, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a court lady with a secret, as they are summoned by the king (Cho Seung Woo) to uncover the curse haunting the East Palace.

The three posters lean into the series’ eerie mood, with Nam Joo Hyuk exuding sharp charisma as Gu Cheon, Roh Yoon Seo drawing curiosity as Saeng Gang, who hears the whispers of spirits, and Cho Seung Woo commanding attention as the king.

Nam Joo Hyuk said that while playing Gu Cheon, he focused on “acting opposite what cannot be seen.”

“I was constantly imagining unseen ghosts and the mysterious ‘Realm of Gwi’ as I acted,” he said. “Every moment on set, I thought about how to make that world feel vivid and natural for viewers.”

Roh Yoon Seo shared what sets The East Palace apart, saying, “The narrative and storyline unfold in such an interesting way that I don’t think it’s simply a scary or visually flashy series. With eerie beings, thrilling action and the characters’ stories all coming together, viewers will be able to enjoy it without a dull moment.”

She also opened up about building her character. “People often say you should look at the people around a character when studying them. I thought a lot about what kind of person the king is, what kind of person Gu Cheon is, how Saeng Gang is different in front of each of them and what emotions she has towards them,” she shared.

Cho Seung Woo added to anticipation by describing the challenge of playing the king. “It wasn’t easy to layer him with multiple masks so that viewers wouldn’t be able to tell what he was thinking,” he said. “The main characters, including Gu Cheon, Saeng Gang and the king, all have deep stories of their own. The way their emotions swirl together with the events inside the palace, then explode and resolve, is what makes the series so compelling.”

The East Palace premieres July 17th, only on Netflix.
