A first look at Nam Joo Hyuk‘s character stills for his upcoming Disney Plus series Vigilante has been released.
Nam Joo Hyuk takes on the multifaceted role of Kim Ji Yong, a model police cadet by day and a justice-serving vigilante by night. This complex character comes with a dark past; after losing his mother to an indiscriminate assault by local thugs, Kim Ji Yong decides to take the law into his own hands after getting released. From that point forward, he enforces his own brand of justice on criminals who have managed to slip through the legal cracks. The actor impeccably embodies this Jekyll-and-Hyde role, switching from a picture-perfect student during the day to a cold and calculating vigilante under the moonlight.

Leaving no stone unturned for his first-ever action role, Nam underwent extensive training ranging from weight training to boxing, judo, and martial arts to deliver the most realistic action scenes. “I really enjoyed the original webtoon and wanted to take on the role of Kim Ji Yong,” Nam revealed. “Given that it’s my first action project, I’ve had many discussions with the stunt team to get the details just right. The feeling of being in a police uniform versus the vigilante outfit was starkly different. When portraying the vigilante, I leaned into a darker, more serious tone and aimed to express more internal emotions rather than overt expressions.”
The director of Vigilante, Choi Jeong Yeol, had nothing but praise for Nam Joo Hyuk. “I was hoping to cast someone who could effortlessly express the delicate boundary between good and evil, with compelling eyes and the underlying sorrow within them. And Nam Joo Hyuk nailed it. There were many moments that left me in awe.”
Meanwhile, Yoo Ji Tae, who plays the role of team leader Jo Heon chasing the vigilante, commended Nam as “an actor with many strengths, fit to expand into global content,” showering him with affectionate accolades.
Vigilante will premiere on Disney Plus on November 8th and will be available every Wednesday thereafter.
