An on-site staffer has pushed back against claims that IVE’s Jang Wonyoung lip-synced during a recent performance, saying all of the group’s members sang live.
Videos from IVE’s August 16th outdoor performance at Caribbean Bay in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, recently spread across online communities and social media, with some viewers questioning why Wonyoung’s voice sounded noticeably different in volume and texture from the other members during “I AM.”
The speculation intensified as An Yujin, who performed seated due to a knee injury, was heard delivering her high notes clearly despite her limited movement. Some viewers pointed to the contrast between Yujin and Wonyoung’s vocals as evidence that Wonyoung may have been lip-syncing her parts.
An event staffer denied the claims in comments to Xportsnews on August 31st.
“The performance in question was not lip-synced. All of the members performed live,” the staffer said.
“Yujin and Liz are the group’s main vocalists, so there is naturally a difference in vocal power compared with the other members,” they explained. “On top of that, each member’s microphone volume is set differently, so during a live performance, the difference in how loud their voices sound can be quite noticeable.”
The staffer added that the same difference can be heard even when the members speak to fans between songs, saying it comes down to the audio setup and individual mic levels rather than lip-syncing.
IVE is currently on its second world tour, “SHOW WHAT I AM,” with upcoming stops in Hong Kong from September 4th to 6th and Taipei from September 11th to 13th.
