Song Joong Ki is coming back. The 38-year-old actor is set to make a splashy return to the silver screen with the upcoming film Hopeless, directed by Kim Chang Hoon, after welcoming a baby boy in Rome, Italy, last June.
His agency HighZiumStudio revealed to TenAsia, “Song Joong Ki will be arriving in the country on the 22nd for the Hopeless press conference and will be participating in interviews and other promotional events.”
As for whether his wife, Katie Louise Saunders, and their newborn son will be joining him on this trip, the agency added, “That has yet to be determined. We’ll sort that out in due course.” Prior to giving birth, Saunders often accompanied Song, closely aligning her schedule with his. But with a nearly 100-day-old baby, their travel plans remain up in the air.
The film’s distribution company Plus M Entertainment also chimed in. “Song Joong Ki plans to participate in all promotional activities for Hopeless, including stage greetings, which are currently under discussion,” they confirmed.
After wrapping up JTBC’s Reborn Rich at the end of last December, this marks roughly 10 months since Song Joong Ki last connected with the public. In the interim, the actor made his debut at the Cannes Film Festival and also became a father.
In an interview during the festival, he couldn’t help but gush, “All my focus is on the baby,” also revealing his affection for his wife. After soaking up the joys of Cannes and the birth of his first child, Song has an action-packed slate ahead, including the confirmed October release for Hopeless, as well as other films like Bogota and a Netflix movie My Name is Loh Kiwan.
Meanwhile, Hopeless is a low-budget noir film where Song Joong Ki takes on the role pro bono, waiving his usual appearance fee. It delves into the story of a young boy who wishes to escape his hellish reality and meets a mid-level gangster boss. The flick hits theaters on October 11th.
