Dok2 is opening up about his relationship with Lee Hi.
On June 17th, Argentine-born singer Dumbfoundead released Episode 19 of his podcast “Home Room Show” on YouTube, with Dok2 appearing as a guest.
During the episode, Dok2 shared an update on his life, revealing that he had been away from Korea since late 2018 due to mental health struggles. He also spoke candidly about how his relationship with Lee Hi, whom he is publicly dating, changed over time.
“I met Lee Hi around 2014 or 2015 through a friend,” he said. “I had been a fan since she first came out. I used to go around asking people, ‘Do you know Lee Hi?'”
Dok2 said he initially wanted to bring Lee Hi into his label, 1LLIONAIRE Records, but the plan fell through because of his mental health struggles.
Although the two continued to have feelings for each other, they grew apart when Dok2 left Korea to start over in the United States. He said he deliberately kept his distance, and the COVID-19 pandemic made it even harder for them to meet. According to the rapper, they grew close again after reuniting at a performance in London once the pandemic had eased.
“As I got older, I realized I couldn’t date the way I did when I was younger,” he said. “I’m 36 now, and she’s 29. Neither of us could do some young, puppy-love romance, so we had to make an important decision. That’s why we decided to make music together.”
Dok2 and Lee Hi are currently working together under their independent label 808 HI Recordings. In March, when they confirmed their relationship, the two also released their collaborative single “You & Me.” They are said to have been dating since late 2022.
