BTS’ RM has found himself in hot water for allegedly disrespecting Muslims.
On August 30th, the rapper started a Weverse live to address the recent controversy. During the live, he addressed, “I respect every belief and religion. That’s all I can say. I know what’s going on on my Instagram. But I am telling you, I had zero intention of insulting a specific religion.”
Earlier this month, RM got swept up in the controversy after sharing Frank Ocean’s song “Bad Religion” on his Instagram story. The track has been the topic of heated discussion due to its potentially Islamophobic lyrics. Netizens who came across RM’s recent post began to criticize him for his decision to share the song.
The part of the song’s lyrics, “A religion that brings me to my knees is a bad religion,” stirred heated discussion among fans. However, the song’s singer, Frank Ocean, once clarified that the music is about his internal struggles of embracing his sexual identity.
Following the controversy, RM made himself clear, saying, “Guys, it’s a song. I’m not apologizing. I’m just saying. I have my own soul, and I am 30 years old. I can express my true thoughts. Please, these words are words; it is what it is. Please believe my words from myself. Not just guessing and assuming, okay?”
