aespa and LE SSERAFIM are making their grand comebacks in May, sparking anticipation for a girl group showdown.
According to Starnews on the 16th, aespa and LE SSERAFIM will both release new albums in early May. The simultaneous clash of aespa, a leading K-pop girl group in their fourth year, and LE SSERAFIM, a rising K-pop girl group in their second year, is expected to garner much attention.
aespa’s comeback comes ten months after the release of their second mini-album Girls in July last year. The girls were originally scheduled for a comeback on February 20th, but it got postponed due to a management dispute at their agency SM Entertainment. Yet, despite the postponed comeback, aespa successfully held their first solo concert at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul on February 25th and 26th.
LE SSERAFIM is also returning to the K-pop scene in early May and beginning their comeback promotions.
The act achieved double platinum certification from the Japan Record Association with their Japanese debut single FEARLESS, selling 500,000 copies as of February. They are the first K-pop group to earn double platinum with their Japanese debut single. This milestone for K-pop was achieved for the first time in 20 years since the certification criteria were changed in July 2003. Expanding the scope to include overseas female groups, LE SSERAFIM is the only team to have recorded over 500,000 album sales with their Japanese debut single.
