Yoo Jae Suk is facing backlash in China after his remarks on a variety show about South Korean skaters who competed at the Beijing Olympics.

On the 19th broadcast of MBC’s Hangout with Yoo, the comedian and the other hosts talked about how they felt about the 2022 Winter Olympics held in China.

Previously on the 7th, South Korean short-track speed skaters Hwang Dae Heon and Lee Joon Seo finished their race in first and second places at the Olympics game. However, both were penalized for an illegal late pass and lane change. Regarding this, a comedian named Shin Bong Sun said, “I was furious.” Yoo Jae Suk then added, “I know, I felt very angry, too. But now I feel much better because he won the gold medal a few days after what happened that day.”

After watching the episode, Chinese internet users claimed that his remarks were rather offensive to hear. They said that he “clenched his jaw tightly and grimaced as if he had suffered something unfair” and that his reactions connotate too many negative feelings.

As a result, the Chinese fan club of Yoo Jae Suk announced on Sunday that it had shut down its website following his remarks. On its official social media account, they wrote, “After long consideration, we have decided to shut down our website indefinitely. We’re leaving a farewell message to everyone.”
