Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo are teaming up for tvN’s upcoming drama The Reason I Decided to Die (literal title).
Based on YUJU’s popular Naver webtoon of the same name, The Reason I Decided to Die is a time-loop romance about Cha Gyeol, a man trapped in an endless cycle of time as he tries to save the woman he loves, and Nam Ji O, a woman who defies fate to protect his life.
Blending first love, personal growth and unwavering devotion, the series follows a young man who repeatedly turns back time to save the person he loves.
The drama will be co-directed by Choi Jung Kyu, whose credits include The East Palace and The Devil Judge, and Kim Hee Won, known for Vincenzo, Little Women and Queen of Tears. The screenplay will be written by Kim Sol Ji of Love Is for Suckers.
Lee Chae Min will star as Cha Gyeol, who repeatedly dies and returns to the past in an effort to save Nam Ji O. Warm one moment and distant the next, Cha Gyeol has lived with the scars of his childhood. After meeting Nam Ji O, he begins to dream of happiness for the first time, only to lose her and find himself reliving the same spring over and over again.
Roh Yoon Seo will play Nam Ji O, a promising taekwondo athlete who dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal. Despite her difficult circumstances, she remains optimistic and refuses to give up on her goal. When an unexpected injury threatens her future, she meets Cha Gyeol and experiences both a life-changing romance and a major turning point in her life.
The drama marks Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo’s first onscreen reunion in approximately three years following Crash Course in Romance. This time, they will play lovers willing to cross the line between life and death to protect each other.
The Reason I Decided to Die tells the story of two young people who transcend time to keep each other safe, the production team said, adding that viewers can look forward to the two actors’ nuanced performances and unique chemistry.
The Reason I Decided to Die is scheduled to premiere on tvN in 2027.
