Youn Yuh Jung is in talks to star in the new series The Tree Dies Standing (literal title).
According to Hook Entertainment, the actress received an offer to take part in The Tree Dies Standing, but is still in the reviewing stage.
Midnight Runners and Hitman: Agent Jun writer Cho Sung Gurl pens the script for The Tree Dies Standing. The series is preparing to collaborate with global OTT with the goal of broadcasting in the second half of next year.
If she joins the project, Youn Yuh Jung will play Ja Geum Soon, a woman in her 90s who is the founder of a leading hotel chain in Korea. Born in North Korea in the 1930s, Ja Geum Soon celebrated the country’s independence in her teens. On top of that, she had to endure the Korean War during her 20s.
The Tree Dies Standing paints out her journey of getting separated from her child and husband while defecting to South Korea and founding a leading hotel chain.
Meanwhile, Youn Yuh Jung became the first Korean actor to win an award at the Academy with her film Minari. Most recently, the actress was selected as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME.
