Just one day shy of their first anniversary, NewJeans got candid about their journey of their first year and offered insights into their latest mini-album Get Up.
NewJeans made their debut on July 22nd of last year. With the ambition of becoming timeless icons, much like a pair of jeans that never goes out of style, the group has been a consistent voice in the music scene.
Minji reminisced, “The most significant aspect of our past endeavors was the element of challenge. We have been performing the music we love while maintaining our genuine selves without pretense.” Hyein added, “I believe what sets NewJeans apart is our music. It took a lot of effort to harmonize the voices of the five members to create a comforting sound. We want to continue producing music that everyone can enjoy and find comfort in.”
The girls agreed that the charm of their group lies in empathy. Hani explained, “Empathy, to me, means understanding the emotions and experiences of others.” She continued, “There’s this certain vibe or feeling we want to convey through our music. I loved how Bunnies (fandom name) could empathize with the stories in our songs. That’s why we are more determined to communicate through music.”
As for their dreams for the future on their first debut anniversary, Danielle shared, “I dream of the wonderful day when we get to go on tour. I wish for the moment where we can meet Bunnies all around the world and connect through our music to arrive soon.”
The moment that was most filled with passion for the group was their first fan meeting. Haerin said, “It was incredibly delightful to showcase many songs at the fan meeting. We first unveiled ‘ETA,’ one of the title songs from our second mini-album. It was a thrilling moment.” Hyein also added, “I prepared for that stage with a fluttering heart. I checked everything more meticulously during the rehearsal. I was truly surprised when Bunnies started singing along right after our performance.”
NewJeans will release their new album today at 1 PM KST. Minji explained, “The album consists of three title tracks and three non-title tracks. It was a real challenge, as all six songs have music videos and choreographies.” Hani hinted, “The order of the tracks on this album is crucial. The story of the songs unfolds in the sequence of the tracklist.”
Finally, the members added, “Although we may all seem outgoing, in reality, we’re quite shy. We have many feelings that we haven’t yet expressed to Bunnies. We hope to spend more time understanding each other’s hearts on a deeper level.”
