BTS has decided not to submit their music for the upcoming 69th Annual Grammy Awards, which will take place in the U.S. next February.
The group announced the decision on social media on July 29th, writing, “We have decided not to submit for the Grammys this year.”
They added, “We hope music can be heard and appreciated for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.”
BTS released their fifth full-length album Arirang in March and continued their global success by topping the U.S. Billboard charts.
Following the album’s success, fans had high expectations that BTS could receive Grammy nominations or even take home an award at the prestigious music ceremony.
The group’s decision not to submit is being viewed as a response to the Grammys’ recent announcement of a new Asian Pop Music Performance category, which will recognize Asian music, including K-pop.
