Kim Soo Hyun’s legal representative, Kho Sang Rock, has revealed that Bu Ji Seok has been formally classified as a suspect in the ongoing investigation. Bu Ji Seok is the lawyer representing Kim Sae Ron’s family.
Kho stated, “Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, Goldmedalist, did not file a complaint against Bu Ji Seok.” However, he noted that despite the absence of a direct complaint from their end, Bu and several others were explicitly listed as “suspects” in the prosecution’s recent arrest warrant request.
“It appears the police recognized a potential link between HoverLab’s Kim Se Ui and these individuals, and are investigating them accordingly,” Kho explained, adding, “It is highly unusual for lawyers to be identified as accomplices and reclassified as suspects during an active investigation.”
Bu Ji Seok is accused of spreading false information after holding a joint press conference with Kim Se Ui on March 27th, 2025. During the event, Bu shared KakaoTalk messages between the deceased and another person— including lines like, “Can I hold you and sleep?” He then claimed these messages were from Kim Soo Hyun. Kho noted that many people believed the false claims because they assumed a lawyer wouldn’t lie.
While Kim Soo Hyun’s team originally excluded Bu from their legal complaint due to a lack of concrete evidence regarding collusion, the current arrest warrant application suggests that investigators have since uncovered evidence of a conspiracy.
Kho also highlighted Bu Ji Seok’s controversial track record. Bu was suspended for one month by the Korean Bar Association for displaying false job titles on a nightclub screen and dancing. Notably, while appealing the disciplinary decision, he held a press conference with Kim Se Ui to spread false information and he returned to the club to throw a celebratory party with footage from the press conference displayed on the screen.
Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team is currently monitoring the court’s upcoming decision regarding Kim Se Ui’s arrest warrant. Kho stated, “We will also wait and see how the investigation unfolds for the other involved parties.”
The arrest warrant hearing for Kim Se Ui is scheduled to take place on May 26nd at the Seoul Central District Court.
