The legal team for Kim Soo Hyun is now pushing back against the text messages released by the family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron. His lawyers claim that the actor’s grueling 2016 film schedule makes it “implausible” that he could have been the one sending the intimate messages in question.
The controversy originated when the lawyer for Kim Sae Ron’s family and Garo Sero Institute held a press conference. At that time, they released affectionate text messages from June 2016, claiming the sender was Kim Soo Hyun and urged him to explain their relationship. The messages included lines like, “Kiss me later, will you?” and “When can I fall asleep holding you?”
However, according to a daily shooting schedule for the film Real obtained by the Korean outlet Money Today, Kim Soo Hyun was filming for 18 days in June 2016, including on the specific dates the texts were sent. With filming on a set that was a two-hour drive from his home, often starting at 8 AM and ending late at night, sources close to the actor argue it would have been impossible for him to be arranging dates. “He was shooting action scenes involving water every day,” one source stated. “As soon as he got home, he would immediately fall asleep.”
Kim Soo Hyun’s lawyer, Koh Sang Rok, has gone a step further, accusing the opposing side of deliberately concealing the sender’s true identity. “Nowhere in the conversation is there any information to identify the man as Kim Soo Hyun,” he stated. He further claimed, “The bereaved family knows who the sender of the 2016 KakaoTalk messages is,” and alleged they were “intentionally concealing” that information.
This follows a similar dispute over 2018 text messages, where Kim Soo Hyun’s team presented his military diary as proof of an alibi. Garo Sero Institute did not respond to requests for comment on these latest claims.
