Lee Joon Gi is opening up about his desire to live a freer, more open life after years of intense self-discipline.
The actor graced the special cover of fashion and entertainment magazine The Star’s August issue. Shot in Taipei under the concept “Beyond Memory,” the pictorial captures Lee enjoying his travels against the city’s scenic backdrop.
Lee previously revealed that he had avoided carbohydrates for several years as part of his strict fitness routine. Now in his mid-40s, he continues to maintain an exceptionally lean physique.
Speaking about his upcoming international co-production drama kiDnap GAME, which is set to premiere later this year, Lee said, “It was exciting and enjoyable learning each other’s languages and ways of communicating.”
He continued, “When you have passion and determination for creating something new, even a challenging set becomes a constant source of discovery and growth. It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to learn so much while working with cast and crew members from different countries.”

Lee also named summer as his favorite season: “Even a little running or movement in summer gives you twice the workout and healing benefits compared to other seasons. I hope everyone can travel somewhere new, take a relaxing walk, go jogging or running, and fully enjoy the hot, brilliant summer.”
The actor also revealed that he has recently become interested in traveling alone. “I’ve started challenging myself to take solo trips,” he shared.
Lee explained that his outlook on life has changed with age.
“In my 20s and 30s, I shut myself off from freedom and lived only with fierce determination,” he said. “Now, I’m telling myself to offer myself some reward, keep my heart open to the world and take the time to feel and observe it.”
He added, “Rather than living a confined life, I want to move toward a more open life for myself.”

Reflecting on his acting career, Lee said he often feels that he may have reached its halfway point. “For the second half, I want to take on more creative challenges that I either held back from or never had the opportunity to pursue,” he said.
Asked to complete the sentence, “Actor Lee Joon Gi is…,” he chose the word “innocent.” He explained, “I hope I never lose the innocence that has been such a major driving force in my life. I believe protecting that innocence in my creative work leads to a healthy kind of passion and sincerity.”
He concluded by thanking his fans for their unwavering support.
“I’m sincerely grateful that you always look at me with such warmth and continue to support me,” he said. “I’ll keep working hard to bring you great projects and performances. I hope everyone stays healthy and enjoys the hot season in style.”
