Park Seo Joon and Park Hae Il are teaming up for director Lee Joon Ik’s new film Firefly (literal title).
The production company announced the cast on August 21st, confirming Park Hae Il, Park Seo Joon and Choi Dae Hoon in leading roles.
Firefly follows a detective desperate to escape the restrictions of South Korea’s guilt-by-association system. His investigation takes him to the rural town of Hwayong after he begins following the testimony of a mysterious man.
The story moves between 1974, during South Korea’s authoritarian era, and 1950, shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War, as the characters uncover the truth behind an incident that remained hidden for 24 years.
Park Hae Il will play Man Seop, the mysterious figure who tells the detective that a trip to Hwayong could lead to a major career breakthrough.
Park Seo Joon stars as Jun Kyung, a detective whose career has been held back by the guilt-by-association system. Hoping to improve his standing, he follows Man Seop’s lead and finds himself drawn closer to the truth.
Choi Dae Hoon will play Tae Sik, a deputy director of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency who believes everything he does is in service to the country.
Lee Joon Ik, whose credits include The King and the Clown, Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, Anarchist from Colony and The Book of Fish, will direct.
Firefly is scheduled to begin filming on September 27th.
